Killings of civilians, AI counts USA

The United States has failed to properly investigate the deaths of Afghan civilians by their military forces, said the group of human rights, Amnesty International.

In a new report, he estimates that potential war crimes have gone without investigation and therefore no punishment of those responsible. The report focused mainly on air and ground attacks carried out overnight by American troops between 2009-2013.

A NATO spokesman told the news agency "Associated Press" it will analyze the report and will provide a response later. The spokesman said that the Alliance takes very seriously the loss of life of civilians and will thoroughly investigate all data.

The number of civilians killed and wounded in the conflict in Afghanistan rose by 14 per cent last year, figures show the United Nations. According to the organization, in 2013 about three thousand civilians were killed and over 5,600 injured.

Most victims were recorded last year as a result of road side bombs set by Taliban guerrillas, or the occurrence of the fire in armed clashes between insurgents and Afghan troops.

But the issue of civilians killed by NATO operations is highly sensitive in Afghanistan and has long been a source of tension between the forces of the Alliance and the outgoing president, Hamid Karzai.

Last year, the Afghan leader stopped airstrikes in residential areas after a group of civilians mistakenly killed in an operation conducted at night with drone aircraft.
