The United States and the UN have condemned the resumption of fighting between Hamas and Israel, calling on both sides to cease hostilities.
"Israel and Palestinian groups should cease hostilities and to continue negotiations to achieve a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. Decision of Hamas to resume rocket attacks would not only jeopardize the Israeli and Palestinian people, but it is a step back for an end to violence, "said White House spokesman Josh Earnest, who added that the United States continues to believe in an agreement for a long-term truce.
While the United Nations said that the resumption of suffering to innocent civilians is intolerable. In a statement the Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon read, I urge the parties to find a way to stop the attacks and to respect humanitarian ceasefire to continue negotiations in Cairo for achieving a sustainable ceasefire.
Israel attacks Gaza resumed after the expiry of the three-day ceasefire on Friday morning, saying it was a response to Hamas rocket attacks.
Hamas representatives said they rejected extending the ceasefire because Israel failed to meet their demands.
Five people were killed Friday in Gaza, while two Israelis were wounded by mortars started by Hamas.
To date, more than 1900 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in these 4 weeks fighting in the Gaza Strip, the UN said. Also, in the conflict have been killed and 67 Israelis, including civilians.
