Two released by Hamas rockets have fallen in an area south of Israel, just three hours before the end of 3-day ceasefire, have announced the Israeli authorities.
Egyptian officials, who suggested the 72-hour ceasefire that began on Tuesday, are earnestly seeking to persuade both sides to agree to a long-term agreement.
A Hamas spokesman called Palestinian negotiators in Cairo to reject any extension of the ceasefire if long-term demands are not met. He said the organization was ready for a long fight.
Meanwhile, the Israeli side had expressed its readiness to extend the truce before the term expires on Friday morning.
After 4 weeks of fierce fighting between Israeli forces and militants in Gaza, more than 1,900 people have been killed.
