In Singapore it is mandatory for everyone to wear a mask when they go out, as part of the stricter measures to curb the further spread of coronavirus.

There are exceptions for those involved in exercise and for children under the age of two, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong told a news conference on Tuesday.

People can remove masks when doing exercises such as running, but they have to put them on later, he said.

Mr Wong, who co-chairs the work with many ministers dealing with the virus, said the government is also seeking to reduce the number of essential services.

About 20 percent of Singapore's workforce, including foreign workers, is continuing to work on these essential services, he said.

"Now we will continue to look at the list of companies classified as essential services and further tighten that list," in order to further minimize movement and keep people at home, Mr Z. said. Wong.

For the mandatory use of masks, Mr. Wong stressed that this does not mean encouraging going out.
