In a few months the world could face a Bible famine

The world is in danger of spreading a biblical famine caused by coronavirus, the World Food Program has warned.

The head of this organization, David Beasley, said urgent acts are needed to avoid disaster. An official report estimates that the number of people suffering from hunger, from 135 million, is expected to reach 250 million worldwide, the BBC reports.

10 are the most vulnerable countries, which are currently in conflict or economic crisis. Yemen, Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Nigeria and Haiti.

Even before the pandemic, parts of East Africa and South Asia were suffering from food shortages due to the long drought. Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Beasley said the world needs to react wisely and quickly.

We could face a biblical famine in a few months, he said. The truth is, Beasley added, we don't have time. He called for the unification of teams and programs to prevent the Covid 19 pandemic from turning into a humanitarian catastrophe.
