Spectacular moment when the herd of 50 wild elephants crosses the highway in Thailand

A giant herd of young and old elephants stopped traffic today as they passed a major highway in Thailand.

The family of more than 50 elephants came out of the jungle and crossed the Chachoengsao road east of Bangkok as dozens of residents and police officers stopped to escort them.

The matriarchal leader led the herd with slow steps followed by the rest of the herd. One of the elephants stopped slightly on the road as the whole herd made the crossing in about 40 seconds.

Reserve guards followed the elephants on their way and notified authorities of the road blockage and accident prevention.

Pratya Chutipat Sakul, the film's cameraman, said: "More than 50 wild elephants crossed the highway, moving one side of the jungle to the other. Wildlife officials have been tracking them for three days and when they saw them moving towards the road, they called the police to protect them. The elephants were very quiet, and they did not even notice the people gathered. I feel lucky to have seen such a sight. "
