Swedish Epidemiologist: Quarantine is not based on scientific facts, COVID-19 is a mild flu-like illness

To date, 14,500 people infected with COVID-19 have been registered in Sweden, and at least 1,570 others have died.

In this country, public gatherings with over 50 people, visits to hospitals and nursing homes are prohibited, while teaching in schools and faculties is continuing in the online system. Many employees are working from home, Telegrafi reports.

However, Sweden is probably the only country in Europe where you can visit a cafeteria or restaurant that is open, not to mention markets and shopping malls that function as if nothing had happened.

Inspectors' teams searched Stockholm, restaurants and cafes over the weekend to see if the required distance between guests was being respected, with nearly 20 of them being reprimanded by municipal authorities, but none have been closed.

Former chief epidemiologist of Sweden Johan Gjesek considers the closure of citizens' homes to be a very bad idea.

"The quarantine and closure of European countries are not measures based on scientific facts. "I think the right policy would be to protect the elderly and people suffering from other chronic diseases, while others should keep in mind that COVID-19 is a mild illness similar to the flu." Karolinska in Stockholm.

"History has shown that hand cleaning and social distance are the best methods in the fight against any disease. "Once the massive antibody tests are done, I believe they will show that half of Sweden's population has already passed COVID-19 disease, and that the death rate will be around 0.1 percent."
