Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called on citizens to use the coming months to prepare and be vaccinated against the flu.
"There is a possibility that the virus attack on our country, next winter, will be even more severe than the one we just went through," Redfield told the Washington Post.
"We will have both the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time," he said.
The United States has the highest number of infected and coronavirus victims: over 800,000, or over 45,000, respectively.
Billions of people around the world have been ordered to stay home in recent months as governments try to curb the spread of the contagious virus.
